# Restaurant Trade License Fee Bangladesh: Budget Guide

Why there is no single national restaurant fee and how to obtain and check the official demand for your premises.

**Last verified: 2026-08-28**

There is no single restaurant trade license fee for all of Bangladesh. The payable amount depends on the issuing local authority, business category, applicable local tax schedule, signboard or other assessed items and whether the application is new, renewed or late.

DNCC states that fees are charged according to the city tax schedule. Therefore, a precise amount copied from a blog or another restaurant is not a reliable quotation. The authority-generated demand is the number to budget and pay.

## What can make up the demand

| Component | Why it varies | Check |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Base license fee | Business category and schedule | Correct restaurant category |
| Signboard or local assessment | Size and local rule where applicable | Declared details |
| Tax or surcharge | Authority schedule | Demand line |
| Renewal amount | Current period and category | Previous license |
| Late charge | Submission date and rule | Deadline |
| Portal charge | Payment channel if applicable | Official receipt |

## How to get the current fee

Create or open the application on the official local-authority portal, enter the correct category and premises, and wait for the official assessment or demand. For DNCC, use the official e-Revenue route linked from DNCC's procedure.

If the portal cannot show the category clearly, ask the licensing office for the current schedule reference. Get the answer in a receipt, demand or written instruction.

## Identify the issuing authority before asking for a price

Start with the physical premises, not the brand name or owner's home address. Invest Bangladesh says trade licenses are issued by the local government: city corporation, Paurashava or Union Parishad. A restaurant inside DNCC therefore follows the responsible DNCC route, while an outlet in another jurisdiction may have a different office, portal, form and schedule.

For a multi-branch business, create one record per premises. Do not assume the head office license automatically covers another kitchen or storefront. Record the authority, ward, application reference and licensed activity beside each branch so future renewals and amendments are not routed from memory.

## Use a provisional budget correctly

Before the authority issues a demand, place a clearly marked provisional allowance in the opening budget rather than presenting it as a quoted fee. The placeholder should have an owner, a due date for replacement and a note that it excludes separate approvals. Once the official demand arrives, replace the placeholder and keep the document that supports the amount.

If management wants a range for cash-flow planning, use the restaurant's own prior official receipt or a written current response for the same authority and category. Label it a planning estimate and keep contingency outside the fee line. A neighbouring restaurant's payment can differ because its legal category, signboard, timing or other assessed facts differ.

## Separate licence fee from the cost of compliance

The official trade-license demand is one cost. Document copies, deed corrections, photographs, professional help, travel, signage changes and the staff time needed to answer a query are implementation costs. Fire, food-safety, tax and VAT processes are separate approvals unless an official document explicitly connects a charge.

Use different ledger codes for authority fee, late charge, documentation and adviser cost. This lets an owner see whether a high renewal cost came from the authority schedule or from avoidable delay and document rework. It also prevents a blog estimate from being copied into accounting as an official fee.

## Payment and evidence controls

- Open the portal from the authority's official website
- Match applicant, premises, category and period
- Save the generated demand before payment
- Use the stated official payment route
- Preserve transaction ID and time
- Download the final receipt and licence
- Escalate a pending status before paying twice
- Restrict access to NID and legal documents

## Record the fee in the restaurant's books

Create a branch-level compliance register with the legal entity, licensed name, premises, authority, application number, issue and expiry dates, demand amount, payment reference, receipt file and responsible person. Link the accounting entry to the official receipt rather than a screenshot of an agent message or an internal budget placeholder.

At renewal, reconcile the cash payment to the new receipt and compare each demand line with the previous period. Record the reason for a category, address, signboard or late-charge change. If the portal shows payment pending, keep the amount in a clearing record and contact official support before another payment. This audit trail protects both cash and future renewal work.

## Budget without inventing a number

Use a range placeholder in the opening budget until the authority demand arrives. Keep a separate compliance contingency for copies, certified documents, premises changes and required sector approvals; these are not automatically part of the trade-license fee.

Do not combine fire license, food-safety work, BIN, TIN or company registration into one number labelled trade license. They are separate processes and may have separate costs.

## Check the demand before payment

- Applicant and legal entity are correct
- Restaurant address and ward are correct
- Business category describes the activity
- New or renewal period is correct
- Each fee line has an authority basis
- Late fee is explained if present
- Payment route is official

## Renewal cost control

Calendar the renewal window and preserve the prior license and receipts. Late application, category changes or premises changes can alter the amount and review path.

Compare the new official demand line by line with the prior period. A difference can be legitimate, but it should be understood before payment.

## Avoid misleading fee claims

A search result that states one exact Bangladesh restaurant trade-license fee without authority, category and date is incomplete. Even a dated DNCC amount should not be presented as a national price.

This guide intentionally does not publish a universal amount. Use the linked official authority and save the assessed demand as your source of truth.

## How we calculated and verified this

We checked Invest Bangladesh's current trade-license FAQ, DNCC's public procedure reference and the DNCC e-Revenue portal. Invest Bangladesh confirms that the issuing authority can be a city corporation, Paurashava or Union Parishad and describes payment as part of the authority-specific process. None of those sources establishes one restaurant fee for the whole country.

For that reason, this guide reports fee components and a verification workflow rather than an invented taka range. The only amount that should enter the restaurant's payable ledger is the current demand or receipt generated by the responsible authority for the correct applicant, premises, category and period.

Budget the trade license as an authority-assessed compliance cost, not a fixed national product price. Correct category and on-time renewal matter more than a copied estimate.

## FAQ

### How much is a restaurant trade license in Bangladesh?

There is no single national amount. The local authority, business category, schedule, renewal status and other assessed lines determine the fee.

### Where can I see the DNCC fee?

Use the DNCC e-Revenue process and authority-generated demand for the current application.

### Is fire license included in the trade license fee?

No. Fire and other sector approvals are separate processes unless an official demand explicitly says otherwise.

### Can the renewal amount change?

Yes. Schedules, category, premises information and timing can affect the demand.

### Should I pay an agent's quoted amount?

Pay only against an official demand or receipt and verify the application and fee lines first.
