Restaurant Trade License Documents in Bangladesh

Last verified: 2026-08-28

Restaurant trade license documents in Bangladesh usually include the applicant's identity and photo, proof of the business address, tenancy or ownership papers and authority-specific supporting approvals. The exact checklist is set by the city corporation, municipality or union parishad that issues the license.

DNCC currently lists documents such as the owner's photograph and NID, a no-objection certificate, rent agreement or ownership evidence, holding-tax receipt where relevant and company formation papers for a company. BIDA also warns that requirements differ by business type and local authority.

Core document checklist

DocumentWhy it is usedQuality check
Applicant photo and NIDIdentifies responsible ownerName matches forms
Rent deed or ownership proofProves business addressCorrect premises and validity
Landlord or authority NOCShows permission to operateSigned and current
Holding-tax receiptLocal premises record where requiredLatest relevant receipt
Company papersProves entity and authorityMOA, incorporation or partnership papers as applicable
Sector clearancesRisk or activity approvalOnly those required for the restaurant

Match every name and address

Use one spelling for the owner or legal entity across NID, deed, company papers, TIN, BIN and application. Write the restaurant's floor, holding, road, ward and area consistently.

A brand name can differ from the legal owner, but the relationship must be clear. Keep a short cover sheet showing legal entity, trading name, premises and contact person.

Documents that depend on the premises

A rented site may need the executed rent agreement and landlord permission. An owned site needs ownership evidence. A market, shopping complex or shared building can require management permission or a different holding-tax trail.

Fire-safety, food-safety, environmental or other clearance requirements depend on activity, building and authority. Do not treat one Dhaka checklist as a universal Bangladesh rule.

Company and partnership applicants

A limited company should prepare incorporation and constitutional documents plus authorization for the signatory. A partnership should keep the partnership deed and registration information where applicable. A proprietorship uses the proprietor's identity and tax records.

Ask the issuing office which pages and certified copies it needs before submitting a large bundle. More pages do not fix a missing required document.

File preparation before submission

  • Scan in colour and keep text readable
  • Use stable filenames with document and expiry date
  • Keep originals available for inspection
  • Check signatures, stamps and dates
  • Record application and payment references
  • Save the submitted version
  • Start a renewal folder immediately

Authority check before paying

Identify the exact local authority for the restaurant address and use only its official portal or office instructions. DNCC's process and service timing apply to DNCC, not automatically to DSCC, another city or a municipality.

Call or visit when the online checklist is ambiguous, and get any special-document request in writing. Avoid paying an unofficial collector without an authority-generated demand or receipt.

Use the current checklist for the correct authority

The required document set depends on the issuing city corporation, Paurashava or Union Parishad, applicant type, address, premises and business activity. Obtain the current checklist from the relevant authority. This article does not claim one universal Bangladesh packet.

Record the official source, service name and check date. Separate mandatory, conditional, requested-later and not confirmed items.

Document register

Do not submit extra sensitive documents merely because an intermediary maintains a generic list. Verify each request and protect copies.

File preparation rules

A compressed unreadable upload can trigger a query. Preview the actual uploaded file and retain the final submission set.

  • Use exact approved spelling
  • Scan complete edges and both sides when relevant
  • Keep text and seals readable
  • Use current requested format and size
  • Name files by document and version
  • Do not alter official content
  • Record translation or certification requirement
  • Store originals securely
  • Remove portal credentials from shared folders

Conditional documents and premises

Restaurant fit-out, building use, fire, food-safety or other permissions may involve separate authorities and are not proven by a trade license alone. Ask the relevant authority and qualified advisers which approvals apply to the site and activity.

Keep each application and certificate separate, with owner and status. Do not label a pending receipt as an issued approval.

Renewal and amendment file

Verify the issued license fields and current renewal instruction. A move, entity change, ownership change or activity change may require amendment or a new process; obtain official guidance. Preserve old versions and effective periods.

Create reminders from actual documents, keep payment and submission acknowledgements, revoke consultant access after work and never edit an issued certificate locally.

Before submission, a second reviewer should compare the application form with every uploaded document for name, address, entity, activity, dates and identifiers. Log discrepancies and resolve them through the authoritative route. After submission, lock the final file set and checksum or version it so later renewal work starts from what was actually sent. A folder containing several drafts without a submission manifest is not a reliable compliance record.

A complete trade-license file is a consistency exercise: right authority, same legal name, same premises and current supporting evidence. Confirm the local checklist before submission and keep the final pack ready for renewal.

Frequently asked questions

What documents are needed for a restaurant trade license?
Common items are owner photo and NID, address and tenancy or ownership proof, NOC, holding-tax evidence where required, entity papers and activity-specific clearances.
Is the checklist the same everywhere in Bangladesh?
No. City corporations, municipalities and union parishads can have different forms and supporting requirements.
Does a rented restaurant need a rent agreement?
Usually address and right-to-occupy evidence is required; DNCC lists rent agreement or ownership evidence and NOC-related documents.
What does a company submit?
Company applicants commonly need incorporation and constitutional papers plus signatory authorization, but the issuing authority determines the exact set.
Should I submit originals?
Follow the authority's instruction. Keep originals available for verification and retain a copy of exactly what was submitted.
Which documents are required for a restaurant trade license in Bangladesh?
Use the current checklist from the local authority for the exact applicant, premises and activity; requirements are not universally identical.
Is a trade license enough to open a restaurant?
Do not assume so. Other premises, fire, food-safety, tax or activity approvals may apply and require separate verification.
Can an issued license PDF be corrected manually?
No. Report errors and request amendment through the issuing authority, preserving the original and official response.
How should a restaurant share license documents with an adviser?
Verify the recipient and purpose, share only required documents through an approved channel, restrict access and duration, keep a delivery record and revoke access after the task. Never include portal passwords or OTPs.
