Restaurant Fire Safety Checklist Bangladesh: Daily to Annual Controls

Last verified: 2026-08-30

A restaurant fire safety checklist in Bangladesh should cover more than the fire-licence file. It must keep escape routes usable, cooking and electrical hazards controlled, equipment accessible, staff trained, emergency contacts visible and inspection records current on every operating day. The checklist must match the premises-specific safety plan and the instructions of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The Fire Service currently publishes the governing law, rules and service SOP index, an online service portal and a sample fire-safety-plan format. That sample specifically treats means of escape, portable extinguishers, detection and alarm systems, fixed systems, inspection, maintenance and record keeping as separate controls. Use the template below as an operating layer, then reconcile it with the restaurant's approved documents and equipment manuals.

Quick answer: what the checklist must control

Start with the approved premises, not a generic internet list

Resolve the restaurant's exact legal premises, floor, kitchen arrangement, fuel source, seating and shared-building conditions before assigning checks. A ground-floor tea shop and an upper-floor restaurant with a commercial kitchen do not have the same risk picture. The building owner, market management and restaurant operator may also control different systems, so document who owns each action.

Place the current fire licence or application record, approved safety plan if applicable, equipment layout, emergency contact list, service-provider records and building instructions in one controlled folder. Mark superseded versions. A laminated wall checklist is useful for staff, but it should point to the current controlled plan rather than becoming an unofficial replacement.

Restaurant opening fire-safety check

The opening check should be short enough to complete but strong enough to stop unsafe service. If a critical escape, alarm, fuel or electrical issue cannot be made safe, the manager should follow the approved escalation process and obtain competent or authority guidance before normal operation. A checklist must never pressure staff to open regardless of the finding.

Use condition-based answers such as Pass, Fail, Not applicable and Corrected during check. A simple tick alone cannot show what was found. Require a note or photo reference for every failure and identify the person who accepted the correction.

  • Walk the complete escape route from kitchen and dining areas to a safe exit
  • Remove cartons, chairs, cylinders, bins or stock from exits and stairs
  • Confirm exit doors and required emergency lighting are usable for the occupied period
  • Check that portable extinguishers and fire blankets are visible and not blocked
  • Look for alarm-panel faults or isolated devices and escalate immediately
  • Inspect gas smell, damaged hoses, unsafe cylinder position and shut-off access
  • Check plugs, sockets, extension leads and hot equipment for obvious damage or overheating
  • Record the checker, time, exception and action instead of ticking every box in advance

Kitchen fire controls during service

Keep the cooking line free from packaging, paper, cloth and unnecessary oil containers. Clean grease according to the equipment and extraction-system maintenance plan. Train staff not to move a burning pan, not to apply an unsuitable extinguishing method, and to raise the alarm early. The exact response must follow the equipment, hazard and approved emergency plan.

Gas or fuel isolation must be reachable by the designated trained person. Delivery and store teams should not place stock in front of isolation controls. If a cylinder, regulator, hose, fryer, electrical appliance or extraction component shows a defect, tag it, stop unsafe use and obtain competent repair rather than improvising a temporary connection.

Closing and after-hours controls

At close, account for every active cooking, heating and charging device. Follow manufacturer shutdown instructions, remove combustible waste, leave escape and service access clear, and verify that required detection or protection systems remain in their correct after-hours state. Do not switch off a safety system merely to silence an unexplained fault.

The closing manager should sign the record only after exceptions have been handed over. If maintenance will attend after hours, record the visitor, affected equipment, isolation and restoration check. The next opening manager must see unresolved defects before service preparation begins.

Inspection, maintenance and record calendar

The Fire Service sample plan distinguishes daily inspections from monthly, semi-annual and annual records for different systems. It is not a universal restaurant timetable by itself. Copy the final frequencies from the premises-approved plan, relevant rule, system design and service instructions, then set reminders before due dates.

For each service entry keep date, equipment or system ID, location, work performed, result, defect, responsible person, provider details, next due date and supporting certificate or job sheet. An invoice that only says fire service does not prove which equipment was checked.

Staff roles, training and drills

Every shift needs a named person who can raise the alarm, contact emergency services, guide evacuation, check the assembly process and provide information to responders. That does not mean an employee should fight a fire. Life safety and the approved emergency plan come first; equipment use is only for trained people and suitable, safe circumstances.

Training records should show attendee, role, language, date, trainer, content and any follow-up. Include new joiners, temporary workers, security, cleaners and night staff. After a drill, record what actually happened: alarm audibility, exit congestion, headcount problems, customer assistance and how long it took to report missing information.

Corrective-action register

Turn each failed check into a trackable action with risk level, temporary control, owner, deadline and closure evidence. Examples include an exit blocked by supplier cartons, a missing inspection tag, an alarm fault, damaged socket or staff member who missed training. Repeated findings need root-cause review, not a fresh tick the next morning.

Separate a temporarily controlled issue from a fully closed issue. Moving cartons once is a correction; changing the receiving and storage process prevents recurrence. Replacing a damaged lead is closure only after the replacement is suitable, installed safely and the affected equipment is returned to service by the responsible person.

When the layout or operation changes

Review fire safety before adding a fryer, tandoor, generator, LPG arrangement, mezzanine, new seating, partition, delivery-packing station or storage rack. A change can affect escape, ventilation, fuel load, electrical demand and access to safety systems. Do not wait until renewal to discover that the approved information no longer matches the premises.

Use the Fire Service portal or official office route for current application and service instructions. Preserve the submitted version and authority response. If a blog, contractor or landlord gives advice that conflicts with the approved plan or authority direction, escalate the conflict rather than choosing the easiest answer.

How we calculated and verified this

This checklist was built by separating two things that search results often mix together: the authority's licensing and safety-plan framework, and a restaurant's daily operating controls. The linked Fire Service pages are the authority sources. The frequency and owner fields below are a practical template that each premises must adapt to its approved plan, equipment instructions and Fire Service direction.

No extinguisher quantity, travel distance, occupancy limit or inspection interval has been invented. Those details depend on the building, restaurant layout, equipment and applicable approval. Where the official sample plan names daily, monthly, semi-annual or annual records, the article preserves that context and tells the operator to confirm the final schedule.

A good restaurant fire-safety checklist is a live control system: correct premises, clear routes, safe cooking and electrical conditions, accessible systems, trained staff, documented inspections and closed defects. Print the quick table for daily use, but manage it under the current approved plan and official Fire Service requirements.

This article is operational guidance, not a premises approval or engineering design. For equipment selection, quantities, system design, occupancy and licensing decisions, use the Bangladesh Fire Service process and competent professionals responsible for the building.

Frequently asked questions

What should a restaurant fire safety checklist include?
It should cover escape routes, extinguishers and protection systems, alarm status, kitchen fuel and grease hazards, electrical defects, staff roles, training, inspection records and corrective actions.
Is one generic checklist valid for every Bangladesh restaurant?
No. The checklist must be adapted to the premises, approved plan, building conditions, equipment instructions and Fire Service requirements.
How often should a restaurant inspect fire equipment?
Use the frequency in the approved plan, applicable requirement and manufacturer or competent-service instruction. Different systems can require different daily, periodic and annual records.
Does a fire licence replace daily safety checks?
No. A licence or clearance file does not keep an exit clear or identify a new fault. Daily operating checks and scheduled maintenance remain necessary.
What number should be used for a fire emergency in Bangladesh?
The Bangladesh Fire Service website publishes 102 as its emergency hotline. Display current emergency contacts at the premises and verify them from the official site.
