Windows Desktop vs Browser POS: Which Fits Your Restaurant?
Desktop is not automatically better. Compare preparation, local data, printing and recovery around the way your counter actually works.

Last verified: 2026-09-07
Should you install a Windows app or keep using your browser? The right answer depends on the counter, not on which option sounds more advanced.
Rosuii offers a browser panel and a Windows client. Both use the restaurant’s account and permissions, but local storage and device setup differ. Compare them by running the same sale, printer check and reconnection test.
Compare the actual workflow
The table describes architecture, not a speed benchmark. A familiar browser setup may suit an owner reviewing reports. A dedicated Windows counter may suit a cashier who wants an installed app and a tested printer workflow. Neither option removes plan limits.
| Decision | Windows desktop | Browser POS |
|---|---|---|
| Device target | Current build: Windows 10/11 x64 | Compatible browser and supported device |
| Local storage | Tenant-scoped SQLite snapshots and outbox | IndexedDB cache and eligible order queue |
| First preparation | Install, sign in and load device data | Open the panel, sign in and prepare offline data |
| Printer check | Test the desktop receipt/label flow and driver | Test the actual browser printing setup |
| Connected work | Server validation and online services need internet | Server validation and online services need internet |
Choose desktop for a prepared counter
An installed application gives the cashier a dedicated place to start the shift. Rosuii’s Windows client keeps snapshots and queued work in its local database. Offline sales get temporary references, and eligible payment records can wait for reconnection.
That does not make the PC disposable. If it contains unsynchronised work, replacing it or deleting app data can remove information that the server has not received. Make queue review part of the handover.
Choose the browser when that workflow already fits
Rosuii’s browser POS also has an offline-data preparation flow and an order queue for eligible sales. Do not describe the browser as online-only simply to promote the Windows app.
A browser is a practical access path for supported devices, but preparation still matters. Do not rely on a fresh browser profile with no cached data during an outage. Check the actual browser, printer and device combination before assigning it to a live counter.
Run the same acceptance test on both
Keep the results factual: worked, failed or not tested. Record any missing workflow instead of turning one successful sale into a claim about every feature. This also gives support a reproducible problem when something fails.
- Use the same restaurant, menu and branch.
- Take an equivalent controlled order on each setup.
- Check receipt content and the selected printer.
- Disconnect and identify which operations remain available.
- Reconnect and verify the server order and payment trail.
When the other option is the better choice
Keep a working browser counter if the desktop has not passed your hardware test. Choose the Windows app only on a supported PC when its workflow meets your needs. If your only machine is Windows 7, this desktop build is not a compatible upgrade.
Remote reports, gateway confirmation and live updates between devices still depend on the server. Choose the application by daily usability and recovery, not by expecting either client to replace the internet.

How we calculated and verified this
Product details were checked against Rosuii’s Flutter client, Windows build configuration and offline queue code on 7 September 2026. These are source-code checks, not independent Windows hardware or printer certifications. No measured time savings, customer counts or universal hardware compatibility are claimed.
Ask for a side-by-side Rosuii demonstration using your own menu and printer. Keep the setup your staff can operate and reconcile confidently.
